In the vales of darkness and despondencies, Allha Subhana-Wa-Talah by virtues of His power created this wonder which was never contemplated that this small sapling would grow into a great tree where from the voices of Quran and Sunna would resound in this hamlet enclosed by mountains and hills. How this all happened?, only answer to this question is that it was the Will of the God and with his unseen support the establishment of this institution and the course of its beneficial spread of the knowledge, could become possible. As such, after three decades of independence in a Mosque of this commercial centre of boarder city Poonch which is known as Baghyalan Masjid and which was constructed by a rich and Islamic Baghyal family before partition as at the time of partition, the said family migrated and settled in Pakistan, the foundation of Zia-ul-uloom was laid. Madrassa started its journey with few followers of Prophet Mohammad SAW, in the said Mosque which become hot in sunlight and trickle in rain.
Two rooms adjoining the Masjid were used for office, guest house and library. Masjid was used as boarding house for the students. During summer when tin roof of Masjid became very hot, the students took bath in well existing in the lawn of the Masjid and during rain they run with their bedding from one corner of the Masjid to the other. Founder of the Institution along with few other teachers, lived in a single room. In this way, in miserable conditions, this group of people, with great hardship, continued their march.
After three years of establishment of Institution the renowned personality of the Islamic world and heart beat of the Indian Muslim, Rector of Dar-ul-uloom Deoband, Hakeem-ul-islam Qari Mohammad Tayab Sahib, (RA) in spite of his hectic engagements, visited this far flung area during extreme cold weather in the month of December. By visiting this far flung area, he did a great favour to the people of the Poonch. It was the blessings of the God that such a great personality of the Islamic world acceded to the request of the founder of the institution because at that time Zia-ul-Uloom could not establish its existence in real sense. Police and administration gave warm welcome to this renowned personality. The area of animal husbandry department adjacent to the Madarsa
was used a Jalsa-gah (meeting ground). See the miracle of this spiritual personality that on his arrival, in the extreme cold weather, the sun shined so hot that the people stayed under open sky during night for want of roofed accommodation.
As a result of the visit of this saintly person and due to his good wishes this helpless group of persons got such an encouragement that they never stopped their march towards their destination. The unexpected visit of the great scholar of Islam invigorated this small group. Despite lack of better road connectivity for his visit to Poonch, his visit to Jamia was not less than a great honour. His historical visit makes this small institution and for such spiritually elevated personality Dr. Sir Mohammed Iqbal has said ;
With the passage of time, this institution marched step by step with its flourishing day and night. Hope was generated that an era of religious education is about to start and then slowly and steadily a segment of masses got attracted towards the institution preparing them for educational advancement and consciousness. The establishment of the institution in this part was a wonder for some people and cause of anxiety for the others. This was the reason that with few years of the establishment of the Madarsa consistent efforts were made to destabilise and disturb its educational advancement.
In these circumstances an educationally and spiritually towering personality of Poonch and Pupil of Sheikh-Ul-Islam Hazrat Hussain Ahmed Madni, Mulana Feroz-U-Din Khaki Qasmi came to Poonch after hearing the Plan of setting up of this Madarsa and counselled the founder of Madarsa compassionately. He said "Ghulam Qadir do not commit the mistake of establishing a madarsa here, there is no atmosphere like UP which you have seen there, You will be disturbed" The founder of Madarsa after hearing this advice said " Mulana I know that to undertake a project of religious education in this area is just like walking over burning fire but I have started this institution with this intention that on the day of resurrection if I am made accountable, regarding benefitting my people with my education, I would be able to explain that I tried my level best". On hearing this reply he prayed heartedly for the progress of this Madrsa. Behind this advice there were problems which confronted this great Scholar after his graduation from Dar-Ul-Uloom Deoband when he started similar work in his area. The doubts expressed by him were found correct but that being so, the impossible has to happen as per the Divine will. With the creation of earth and after emergence of human being from day one, falsehood emerged with truth and this situation continued with innocent group of prophet's companions, renowned scholar and saints. This is the settled principle of nature that whenever an individual or group with voice of truth shall emerge, he had to face an opposing current. A group who is not faced with oppositions and problems have to change their course and adopt the path of righteousness. There is painful story of problems and adverse circumstances which shall be dealt with in a separate book, that is how this institution marched towards its destination despite multitude of problems. A distinguish feature of this intuition is that the spiritual farsightedness of the founder simultaneously established an institution of modern education so as to inculcate Islamic values amongst the young generation. This synthesis of religious and modern education is an example in itself, which has rendered unprecedented service to the region. Despite criticism by a segment on this move of the founder, his decision being based on sincerity proved correct and what he decided 30 years ago was followed by other institutions 30 years thereafter.
